Details

A career is more than a series of jobs; it is a pathway to the realisation of your goals. Why is it in the first decade of the new millennium we cling to outdated notions of job and career? In the past most people left school, got a job and likely stayed in the same organisation until retirement. Now we are more likely to be changing employers and even professions as circumstances dictate. This should not be viewed as a negative but an empowering, challenging and rewarding career path that offers us more freedom, variety and opportunities than the traditional view could ever have.

To succeed in the new job market we must approach this challenge with an innovative and creative attitude. This can be achieved in a variety of means, but one absolutely crucial element is a positive attitude and willingness to adapt, learn and grow. It is essential to first discover the self through analysing our beliefs systems, identify our strengths as well as limiting attitudes. Only when this is done can we articulate our short term and life goals and visualise where we want to be.

Dynamic Career Development is broken down into three sections.

  • Part 1 takes the reader on a journey of self-discovery, introducing them to ground breaking ideas in positive psychology, and helping them to create firm goals. The concept of visualisation is introduced to encourage students to have a vision of their future.
  • Part 2 examines the world of work and the opportunities that exist in the current employment climate. Strategies for succeeding in the workplace, using active listening and creating win/win interactions are discussed. The reader is also introduced to the concept of lifelong learning.
  • Part 3 equips the participants with the tools to promote themselves in the job market. This includes techniques for creating effective résumés, communication techniques, how to succeed in interviews, personal presentation and effective job search strategy.

Through a combination of case studies and easily applied exercises, Guy Williams outlines and teaches key tools and strategies for the job market and how to identify and achieve what we want out of our working lives.
