Details

Most athletes and people in general, have very little idea on how to manage soft tissue injuries.

Incorrectly treated, a simple sprained ankle, torn muscle or painful back can cause months or even years of painful concern that will not only hinder optimum sporting performance but can cause significant deterioration in the quality of life. With an understanding of injury types, healing times and treatment principles, soft tissue injures can be minimised and cured. All too often patients ignore the basic recovery principles of heat or ice and active rest and only succeed in causing themselves more injury, pain and expense.

One of the purposes of this book is to demonstrate to the patient how effective home treatments of heat or ice can be. Home applications of heat and ice are inexpensive, reusable, environmentally-friendly, have no side effects, are extremely effective in combating pain and swelling and will optimise the patient's recovery time. Known as the Bruise Busting technique, the applications of heat and ice combined with active rest and common sense, are proven, safe and effective.

Some injures will require professional diagnosis and treatment but the bruise Busting techniques can still be employed as part of a home therapy program.

Contents include:

  • What happens in soft tissue trauma
  • Diagnosis and tissue types
  • Injury assessment and treatment
  • Creating the healing environment
  • Summarising the Bruise Busting technique

The illustrated text is complimented by detailed diagrams, revision questions and teacher's notes. An essential resource for all school Physical Education departments, sporting clubs and athletes.

Please note: It is not the intention of this book to replace emergency medical treatment from qualified professionals but to educate athletes and coaches how to optimise recovery time and minimise the pain from soft tissue injuries.
